Lesson Learned - How to Tell You Had Too Much Sun

After being in the pool all day, your 5 year old turns to you and says:
Dad, you don't look too good. Want me to kiss it and make it feel better...

Lessons Learned about saying no...

Son: Are you taking me to Blockbuster?
Dad: I REALLY don't want to...
Son: Is that a 'yes'?

Lessons Learned at the Lake

I learned that standing behind a 4-year-old when teaching them to cast a fishing rod leads to the following:
1. One trip to Urgent Care
2. One tetanus shot
3. Three shots of novacaine
4. Two stitches
5. 15 doctors and nurses asking, 'Can I see the hook in your hand...'

So It Begins...

I am sitting in my kitchen. I am surrounded by my personal belongings; most of which are in oversized Ziploc storage bags. The last of the electronic devices charges on the kitchen counter while the cat hovers around as if he knows that all is not well.

We are now less than three hours from departure. We are heading to the Black Hills of South Dakota in a 31 foot RV.

Currently, I drive a less than 31 foot Volkswagen Beetle. It is not perfect, but I like it. It is easy to park and fun to drive. I have not driven the 31 foot RV yet but I doubt that it is either of those things.

When mentioning to anyone where we are going, the first question that is asked is, 'Are you going to stop at the Corn Palace'. We are: going to the Corn Palace. But, how does everyone know? They know because it is the best and most memorable part of their adventures to the Black Hills. Just like not having driven a 31 foot RV, I have also not been to a Corn Palace. However, I don't ever recall waking in a fit screaming that my life would not be complete until I see a Corn Palace.

And yet here I am sitting in the kitchen preparing to go on 'The Adventure of a Lifetime'. My only hope now is that we make it back in one piece...
